THE MISSION—Don't look now, but the 18th Street gourmet ghetto strip is, somehow, going to get even more crowded with the arrival of a new controversial housing project. From Curbed SF: "Insiders indicate that the long process was tied to "a ton of opposition from neighbors and the rental community" in the Mission Dolores neighborhood ... Patience of neighborhood foodies, however, may be tested, as the lines [for] Tartine, Bi-Rite, Delfina, etc. become further bloated. The complex is pitching a sort of "hassle free" San Francisco living experience, with everything right outside your door, plus some deeded outdoor space and a parking spot." [Curbed SF]

CITY-WIDE—Lots of chef shuffling going on lately. According to this week's 'Hopper, chefs are leaving a pair of relatively new wine bars: CAV and Nua. Good thing there are several other wine bars in town. [Tablehopper]

SOMA—Thanks to commenter Sal for solving the Medici mini-mystery: "Medici's going into the old Shadow Lounge space. 299 9th Street at Folsom. (between Clementina St & Folsom St)" [Eater Comments]

FINANCIAL DISTRICT—Tonight, the Hyatt Regency hosts the 1st Annual San Francisco WhiskeyFest. Over 250 various whiskeys will available; tickets, sadly, are not. If you were lucky enough to get tickets before they sold out, don't forget to check out the chocolate/whiskey tasting led by the one and only John Scharffenberger. Here's hoping it tastes better than those crappy liquor-filled chocolate barrels from the airport. What? [BAB]

BERKELEY—Ice cream favorite Sketch remains closed past its October 22nd opening date: "Don''t hold your breath - the opening has been delayed until October 29th. I think I'm going to go home and cry." [Chowhound]
