Next Monday, the Michelin-starred Fifth Floor will close for at least month as it finally gets its oft-discussed overhaul. Led by Laurent Manrique of Aqua (and Cafe de la Presse) fame, the renovations will extend from the dining room all the way back to the kitchen. After designing a Gascon-influenced menu, Manrique will technically stay on at the Fifth Floor as a "chef-consultant," and the Scoop has it that Jennie Lorenzo, once of Ame, will head the day-to-day in the kitchen. As for the space itself, expect a casual lounge/cafe and lots of adjective-heavy colors:
The Gascon theme will be carried through the restaurant's physical revamping, with ocean blues, wine reds and neutral sand tones. The front part of the space will be turned into the Fifth Floor Cafe, a no-reservation cafe/lounge serving bistro food. The space will feature overstuffed leather club chairs and a 12-person communal table.Sadly, this anticipated arrival of ocean blues and friends does not bode well at all for the zebra-print carpeting, pictured via Yelp. You have until Monday to say your goodbyes.
