L'Ardoise Comes to the Castro, Helps With Pronunciation

On the quiet corner of Noe and Henry, the slightly-delayed L'Ardoise is trying help out the neighborhood by not only replacing the subpar Los Flamingos in the cursed space at 151 Noe—described by a commenter as having "bad juju since the Thai House moved out"—but also by offering an assist in the Hooked on Phonics department. As seen in our little L'Ardoise photo gallery above, new window notes offer the proper pronunciation of the place as "Lard-Waz." Unfortunately, while the bistro due in March by the talented Thierry Clement (late of Fringale) still offers much hope for locals on the northside of Market, nothing undermines the grace and elegance of a nice French name quite like spelling it out as brusquely as "Lard-Waz."
