EaterWire: Julius' Castle Waits, PlumpJack Loses Another
Wednesday, February 27, 2008

Got some news for EaterWire? Tipline operators are currently standing by.

2008_02_jcastlesmall.jpgTELEGRAPH HILL—Up in the land of parrots, Julius' Castle continues to wait for its prince charming. Now shuttered over a month, owner Jim Payne says he wants to be very selective with the next tenants and he will only the rent the place to a "world renowned chef" so it can regain its historic value. Though it's unclear whether any candidates have actually come forth—and sure, most of the city's big names are in the middle of other projects—someone has to want the place, right? After all, it is a castle. [EaterWire]

YERBA BUENA—Team PlumpJack has lost another member of its staff, as the group has been set for next year's Yerba Buena Lane steakhouse. From Zagat: "Adam Jeb Jed, a former GM of PlumpJack restaurants, has paired up with Karl Hasz ... to open a 6,000-sq.-ft. steakhouse at One Yerba Buena Lane in the South of Market district. The as-of-yet-unnamed steakhouse is slated to open by January 2009, and the duo is currently interviewing chefs and mixologists for the project." [Zagat]

BERKELEY—Mark the calendars. Food man, and new Amazon blogger, Michael Pollan will hold court next week at the Cal journalism school: A 6 p.m. reception in Northgate Hall will be followed by the 7 p.m. talk in Wheeler Auditorium. The event is free, but tickets are required. They're available at Zellerbach Auditorium's box office or can be reserved through Thursday." [Chron]
