Opening Report

Mayes Oyster House, Green Chile, Bruno's Kitchen Debut

2009_11_mayes.jpg

1) Polk Gulch: Tonight, the reincarnated version of Mayes Oyster House opens on Polk in the space that last housed Midpoint and O'Reilly's Holy Grail. The full backstory of Mayes' rebirth can be had in the Eater Archives, but here's the quick version: Mayes originally moved into the space in 1867, but this modernized version will have global delicacies (i.e., choose between sashimi and bouillabaise) and DJs too, so it's not exactly a replica. But: $1 oysters during Happy Hour (5-6:30). 1233 Polk Street, between Bush and Sutter; 415-885-1233 [EaterWire]

2) Western Addition: Right on schedule, today is reopening day for the new location of Green Chile Kitchen. Just a block away from the shuttered original, it's bigger, has an expanded menu, and has a thrilling new website that plugs its New Mexican inspired food. 1801 McAllister Street, at Baker; 415-440-9411; website [EaterWire]

3) The Mission: According to Lady Hopstress, Ryan Ostler and Katharine Zacher, last seen at Broken Record, have their Bruno's kitchen project up and running as of last night. Tuesday through Saturday, they'll be doing their Southern-inspired menu. 2389 Mission Street, at 20th, 415-643-5200; website [TH]
