Team Martin Yan has already spilled the beans about the 1,800 pound bell, gold-medal-wearing noodle puller, mooncake molds, and strategic Asian soundtrack that will grace M.Y. China when it unleashes 16 regional cuisines of China upon the Westfield. Now it is time to show you some of the latest creations from the test kitchen, and talk about snuff bottles, obviously. A collection of two dozen antique powdered tobacco holders from the Qing Dynasty days will adorn the walls of the restaurant, and they weren't an easy get.
According to M.Y. China personell, Yan and friends were on a quest to find snuff bottles in Guangzhou, when they finally hit the jackpot at a tiny store tucked down an alley. After the owner refused to sell any bottles to them, and her daughter stuck around to let them handpick some goods behind her back, one of the partners decided it was a good time to accuse the shop owner of selling fakes, and insist they would not pay full price. She was livid, naturally, and threw them out. But somehow, someway, they were able to use magical bartering powers to make amends, and leave with a collection of over 24 bottles. At least that's how the story goes.
Check out the antique snuff bottles above, and up close in person when M.Y. China opens, sometime in the new target window of mid-November.
