Sad news for cocktail fans: 2013 will come and go without an edition of SF Cocktail Week. The event, which was the nation's first cocktail week, would have been in its seventh year this fall, but the specter of the America's Cup ultimately proved to be too much of a challenge. "We have decided to not do SFCW this year because of difficulties in scheduling around the America's Cup," says H. Joseph Ehrmann of Elixir and the Boothby Center, who is one of the event's organizers. "We've had trouble in past years executing around the Salesforce.com and Oracle conventions, and the America's Cup was an even bigger obstacle." Ehrmann is also a new father, and deems his current schedule "twice as slammed," so that may have played a role in the decision.
The good news is that the event will return in 2014, with big changes. "We decided instead to give ourselves a year to plan a bigger, refreshed version of the festival," says Ehrmann. In the meantime, the organizers will host a handful of smaller events this year and next; we'll keep you posted on what those will be.
