Invite your family and friends over for Thanksgiving. Then, call one of these delicious makers-of-food and place your order.
Souvla
Hayes Valley's Souvla is offering spit-roasted turkeys, available for pick-up or delivery the day before Thanksgiving. These saucy fellows are fully cooked, free-rage Mary’s turkeys from Pitman Family Farm in the San Joaquin Valley. They're rubbed all over with a variety of Greek spices and roasted on a spit until juicy and crispy. Use the time saved by not cooking a whole turkey to drink more wine and sit on the couch- you've earned it. Order through Caviar for delivery on Wednesday, or order through Square for pick-up at Souvla on Wednesday
4505 Meats
It's a meaty time of year... the turducken is king. The Grand Turducken from 4505 Meats is a duck inside a chicken inside a turkey, all of which is then crammed full of stuffing. It feeds 25-30 people and it will make you very, very popular. If you're feeling more subtle, snag a heritage or traditional turkey to roast and brine yourself. Either way, it's gonna be good.
Belcampo Meat Co.
Polk's newest meat emporium, Belcampo Meat Co., will offer a range of sustainable meat specials, available for pre-order and at the butcher counter. No matter what type of creature you want to eat on Thanksgiving, choose from BN Ranch turkeys, whole quail, artisan smoked ham and lamb crown roast. Belcampo also has locations in Larkspur and Palo Alto.
Good Eggs
Too busy to pick up anything good for Thanksgiving? Good Eggs' Holiday Marketplace pretty much has it all. They'll deliver it for free from 11/21- 11/26. Choose from Three Babes Bakeshop pies, Local Mission Market sides, Bill Niman Ranch turkeys and all of the raw materials from your favorite local farms. And if you want to y'know, give back to the community this year, Good Eggs will add a free (to you) donation to the SF-Marin Food Bank onto your order. Now that's service!
La Boulange
Drop in to a La Boulange to place your order for a cranberry bread wreath, creme fraiche and pumpkin tart or just a big bag of plain dinner rolls. They are also offering a super-moist pumpkin nut muffin that is worth a visit, Thanksgiving or not.
Le Dix-Sept Patisserie
Behold, the 2014 Tart Pumpkin from Le Dix. This iteration of last year's instant classic has organic pumpkin, milk chocolate, toasted pumpkin seeds and pumpkin that has been confited until almost translucent. If you're hosting this year, procure one for your guests. If you're a guest, procure one for your host. It will not be forgotten. If sweet's not your thing, try a savory butternut squash and mushroom tart or a box of cannelés with your coffee. They'll even deliver in SF.
Le Marais Bakery & Bistro
Don't let dessert fall by the wayside. Le Marais is offering crazy good tarts, cakes and breads to complete your Thanksgiving meal. Pumpkin spice tarts (obviously), macarons and a holiday bread basket filled with orange brioche, pain de mie, country levain, apple butter and more stand out.
Salumeria
This year just order an incredible Thanksgiving dinner completely cooked (except for the turkey, which IS pre-brined) and spend your day drinking wine and watching football or whatever it is you like to do. Just make sure you have a secret spot to throw away all the takeout boxes, and the day is yours. Get your butternut squash gratin with goat cheese and hazelnuts, pork sausage and fennel stuffing here. Add on a pie or some wine from Black Jet Bakery and you are ready to rumble. Feed 4-6 people for $295.Orders must be placed by 7:00pm on Sunday, November 23, 2014. Food will be ready for pick up on Wednesday, November 26th, between 2pm-6pm from Salumeria located at 3000 20th Street, San Francisco, CA.
Standard Fare
Brought to you by Kelsie Kerr (Chez Panisse, Zuni Cafe), Standard Fare offers local, seasonal fare to take home. Kerr's food comes from local purveyors and comes served in a ceramic vessel from Jered's Pottery (which you have to return, sorry). While they're not offering the main event (turkey), they have an array of sides like a creamy butternut squash and celery root gratin baked in a ceramic pot, or a farro salad with cardoons. Seal the deal with a persimmon pudding, a cake of persimmons, honey, spices and walnuts.
Shed
Hosting your Thanksgiving in the lovely Sonoma Valley this year? Healdsburg Shed is offering BN Ranch turkeys in two varieties- the darker meat Heritage ($9/lb) and more traditional Broad-Breasted ($5.50/lb). These free-range, vegetarian, GMO-free turkeys are born and raised in Bolinas, CA. The birds can be picked up (only) at SHED from the Larder. 8am to 7pm beginning on Monday, November 24.
