CBS Buys Chowhound
—
In a "hefty" deal worth a cool $1.8 billion, CBS has bought CNet, the parent company of Chowhound, among others. 'Hound master Jim Leff, whose basement enterprise has now grown into an asset of a major media company, isn't yet sure what the move means, but is hopeful that it will be a boon, so long as the pesky wannabe food snobs stay away: "What we don't need, however, is a broader slice of diners participating. A real flood of unsavvy diners could dilute the knowledge level." [Chron, Chowhound]

The Shutter
—
Another Tuesday, another institution down: "Imperial Tea Court will soon close its original store on Powell Street near Broadway in the face of increased rents. It's something of an institution, having been around for nearly 15 years, and will be missed because ITC's three "boutique" outlets are not the same serene and inviting places." [Chowhound]

The Dish: Mood Thai, Matador, Shokolaat
All the latest and greatest openings in town can be found in The Dish. Notice a new restaurant in your neighborhood? Do tell.
1) Mood: Opening in the former Taqueria Alebrijes space in the wharf is Mood, a nice-looking Thai place on Beach. Standard Thai dishes take up most of the menu, accentuated by a few Japanese dishes (okonomiyaki, unaju, Japanese curry) and some modern ones (Asian oysters Rockefeller). Fish dishes aside, nearly everything is under $10. Free delivery as well, but only until 9pm. Despite the obvious warning sign of a Thai place with Japanese plates, this could be a nice option for you Northsiders. 418 Beach Street, near Taylor, Fisherman's Wharf; (415) 922-6663 [Eater Staff]
