The Dish: Lava Lounge Opens Softly, Plus Blue Muse

All restaurant and bar openings, big and small, are served up on a regular basis via The Dish. If you notice a new debut, please do leave a tidbit in the tip jar.

1) Lava Lounge: Last night marked the debut of Lava Lounge in the onetime Eagle Drift-In space in SoMa. Suffice to say, the space has undergone a glossy, radical facelift; do compare the before and after shots. As it stands, Lava Lounge still seems to be in a formative stage of sorts, but the guys there say they're technically open, though only for drinks. The bar seats 20, give or take, and they are looking to extend to food service down the line in the form of—wait for it—a prime rib house. 527 Bryant Street, between Third and Fourth, SoMa; phone N/A [Eater Staff]

Recovery Ward: Globe Set to Reopen Tonight

2008_01_globe.jpg

According to the folks at Globe, Joseph Manzare's fire-damaged restaurant will reopen tonight for the first time since that fateful, toasty December 17th evening. As of last night, the plan is to resume dinner service this evening, with the lunch counterpart making a comeback likely sometime early next week, meaning that one of the best/only late-night dining destinations in town is back. in. business.

EaterWire: Globe Looking at a Wednesday Return

All the day's news and notes go in EaterWire. Have some juicy tidbits, delectable gossip or notable sightings? The tip jar awaits, eagerly.

JACKSON SQUARE—Last Friday (1/4) was originally slated as the day Globe returned to the world (sorry), and even though the answering machine message declaring the January 4 return persisted through the weekend, anyone who stopped by could tell you that it remained still very much shuttered from the December fire. The resy line, updated today, now states that Globe "should reopen during the week," and an on-site spot inspection reveals that, as of now, Wednesday is the aim. Stay tuned. [EaterWire]

SOMA—As promised with the turn of the calendar year, Local—also known as Local Kitchen and Wine Merchant, FYI—has commenced its lunch and weekend brunch services. The website is under-construction (thus no menuporn), but we've got word that a nice collection of salads, sandwiches and wood-fired pizzas grace the lunch menu. [EaterWire]

MISSION BAY—Unfortunately, the San Francisco homicide wave is continuing well into the new year, and skirmishes continue to break out in South of Market venues. The latest: Jelly's Dance Cafe was the scene of a fatal shooting over the weekend. [NBC, via SFist]

EaterWire: Globe Down "Two Weeks to Two Months"

2007_12_globe.jpgFINANCIAL DISTRICT—Initial estimates regarding last night's kitchen fire at Globe appear to have been overly optimistic, as headman Joseph Manzare tells the Inside Scoop that his restaurant will likely be closed "from two weeks to two months." The fire, though small, was apparently plenty damaging for Globe; was it Frost who said the world ends with a whimper, not a bang? [Chron]

THE MISSION—Lady Hopstress has the details on yet another gourmet coffee bar. Fourbarrelcoffee is coming to Valencia & 15th, much to the delight of connoisseurs/hipsters everywhere: "The concept is more coffee bar than café, with some seating, but it will primarily be a space to showcase their coffee to wholesale clients (and people obsessed with coffee) ... There will be two La Marzocco Mistral machines, the only ones in California. Fourbarrelcoffee will be sourcing single origin coffees, and doing their own espresso blend." As always, more details can be had at 'Hopper HQ. [Tablehopper]
