EaterWire AM Edition: A16's Dogpatch Project Gets a Name, Daniel Boulud Comes to the West Coast
THE DOGPATCH—Don't look now, but it appears as if the third restaurant from the A16 gang might—just might!—have a name. According to ABC records, Team A16 has applied for a liquor license for the 800 Minnesota Street location under the name of .... Urbino. Though it's possible that the name might only be a placeholder, it does fit with the Le Marche theme of the project. While we await official word, all other aspects of the Dogpatch Project can be had here. [ABC]
VANCOUVER—Despite some faint rumblings last year that one Daniel Boulud might venture into San Francisco, the man behind New York's Daniel (among others) has announced that he is indeed coming to the West Coast, though he's shunned the Bay in favor of Vancouver: "Mr. Boulud is the first major celebrity chef to open a restaurant anywhere in Canada. The news has sent shockwaves through the culinary community ... The new restaurant will be modeled after [DB Bistro Moderne] where he launched the world's most expensive hamburger." Pre-Plywood Update: The Dogpatch Project
Details continue to come into focus regarding the third endeavor by Team A16/SPQR. To quickly recap, the Dogpatch Project—sounds like a code name à la the Manhattan Project, no?—will be at Esprit Park, which as you can see from the November photo of the space to the right, is still very much in heavy construction. The physical deets have been known (120-30 seats, adjacent takeout rosticerria, very green, etc), but now the Scoop brings word of a theme for A16, version 3.0:
The theme, according to [Victoria] Libin and [Nate] Appleman, will be food from Italy's Le Marche region, which is influenced by flavors from Greece, Croatia and Slovenia as well as neighboring Umbria, Tuscany, Emilia Romagna and Abruzzo.
The wine list will incorporate those regions as well, along with a good selection of grappa, and cocktails that reflect what was popular among Americans stationed in Italy right after World War II.
Late 2008—possibly November—is the very preliminary word on a possible ETA, and the endeavor still remains unnamed ... for now. (Cue the suspenseful music.)

Pre-Plywood Report: More on A16's Dogpatch Project
Late last week, we briefly touched upon the third restaurant in the A16 family, an unnamed project in Esprit Park (space pictured). Now, more juicy details have emerged for your early afternoon perusal:
1) Even though it is 12-14 months away and some details remain on the blurry side, the A16 gang is "100% moving forward" with the Dogpatch restaurant.
2) Not only will there be a 120-seat restaurant, there will also be an adjacent rosticceria that will offer prepared foods, Italian imports, local food products and wine (duh).
3) A16 hearkens to Southern Italy and Naples, while SPQR pays homage to Rome. The theme of restaurant number three will focus on a region in central Italy, so cast your votes.
4) As for the building and design front, the restaurant will be constructed in a very green manner by Build, Inc. San Francisco wouldn't have it any other way, right?
