Fall Tracking Report: Local

The autumn months always bring a deluge of restaurant debuts, but predicting the actual opening dates for said restaurants is a bit like hitting a moving target. Hence, Fall Tracking Report, your source for the latest intel on when you should start trying to score that resy.

2007_09_efp.jpgLocal, 330 First Street, SoMa

Initial Debut Projection: Late September 2007
Current Debut Projection: Late October 2007
Odds, On Time Arrival: 5 to 1
Eater Projected Opening Date: 11/08/07

The First Street project by Oola owners Ola Fendert and Maria Hilario-Fendert continues along quite nicely. Affectionately dubbed by Zagat as a "loungey localvore vino venue," Local is probably the most anticipated restaurant opening in the near future; in other words, its debut actually seems within striking distance. Peeking inside the cozy, low-ceiling space, bar stools are halfway set up, paint has begun to grace the walls and of course, an open kitchen showcases beautiful views of that wood-fired oven. If you need more clues as to the nature of the place, consider the preview poster gracing the front window: "You could learn a lot about your neighborhood over a glass of wine." Conclusion: in several weeks, Local will be the latest piece of evidence in the rise of the friendly neighborhood restaurant.

Why yes, the Exit sign does work. Note the interesting ceilings.

Open kitchens and wood-fired ovens go together like peas and carrots.
