EaterWire: The Helmand Returns, Gitane Forthcoming

Gitane on Claude Lane: not until 2008.

NOB HILL—Cafe Claude will have to wait until the new year for its new Claude Lane neighbor to arrive. Gitane, once thought to open in late November, is now looking at an uncertain debut date. The person we spoke to theorized sometime in January or February, "but it's going to be 2008 for sure." [EaterWire]

RUSSIAN HILL—Great news for Afghan lovers (the cuisine and the people): the Helmand's back. After a landslide forced them to close their original location on Broadway, they've reopened on Van Ness as Helmand Palace. As usual, the hounds are on it: "I just phoned (same old number) and they did open yesterday! Dinner 7 days 5:30-10:00. Trying lunch, Tues.-Fri. 11:30-2:30, they'll see how it works out. 2424 Van Ness Ave (bet. Union & Green)" [Chowhound]

PACIFIC HEIGHTS—Details are murky on this one, but a sushi restaurant and sake bar named Tataki is moving into the onetime Subway space on 2815 California Street, near the corner of Divisadero. Anyone know anything? [EaterWire Inbox]
