EaterWire: New Michael Mina Restaurant En Route

New, 1 comment

UNION SQUARE—The Westin St. Francis is reportedly looking to undergo $150 million worth of upgrades. However, if the hotel does spend the big bucks, it wants the city to help out on the tourism advertising front. The good news for you is that even if the big upgrade doesn't go through, a new restaurant from Michael Mina is coming in a smaller renovation: "... an initial $40 million renovation it is now undertaking, which will include plans, still under discussion, for a new Michael Mina brasserie and bakery facing the street." [SF Business Times]

HAIGHT—Next week marks the ten-year anniversary for Magnolia Pub and Brewery, and the Magnolia people are celebrating accordingly. Starting on Monday, the next seven nights will each feature a special "theme" that pays homage to Magnolia's influence (i.e., a British gastropub night, a Belgian-inspired night, etc). [alcademics]

THE SUNSET—Changes afoot in Parkside! Family-run, neighborhood staple Parkside Restaurant on Taraval and 33rd will soon be under new ownership and its new name will be The Spot or some variation thereof. Expected the seniors who loyally frequent Parkside for its comforting Italian-American fare to very, very confused when they see the new place in a couple months. Cue the Lady Macbeth lines too. Damned spot. [EaterWire]
