Turns out the homeless crackheads aren't the only unwanted occupants of Mint Plaza: "At night, the dominant species on the Mint property are the big, brazen rats that often shock passing tourists and surprise people as they wait for the bus at Fifth and Mission streets. These rats are a familiar sight to ChronicleWatch and our fellow Chronicle employees who work across the street. A number of our colleagues report a recent increase in rats." A proliferation of mega-rats can't be good news for Chez Papa and the rest of the upcoming restaurants, but if you make it down there, please do enjoy that outdoor patio at Sushi Groove/Dolce Vita.
