Miriam Morgan has 2.5 stars for San Mateo's Gator's Neo-Soul Cafe, the restaurant whose genesis came about after Glenn "Gator" Thompson took a surgery-provoking tour of the South: "The Southern trip, after the closing of his previous restaurant, Alcatraces, in Noe Valley, was a return to his Arkansas and Mississippi roots, but it eventually led to bariatric surgery and, finally, to his vision for his new restaurant."
