EaterWire: Introducing The Long Bar, Parting With Ararat

PACIFIC HEIGHTS—As it turns out, The Long Bar—the "fictitious business name" theorized about in the Plywood Report comments once upon a time—will indeed be the name of the new restaurant on the corner of Fillmore and Clay. Lady Hopstress has the deets: "The Long Bar will be a classic establishment, with a look inspired by old-school hotel bars. The mahogany bar is 30 feet long [Ed note: therein lies the long bar], and there will be dark woods, rich colors, three fans suspended from the tall 17-foot ceilings, plus there will be outdoor seating under heated awnings." What she doesn't tell you are the other names considered for The Long Bar: The Tall Ceiling and The Heated Awning. Further reading in the Plywood Report and over at 'Hopper HQ. [Tablehopper]

CASTRO—We've received confirmation that Ararat Mediterranean is indeed closing. According to the folks down there, they will be closing in about two months, and Poesia— the new restaurant moving into the 4072 18th Street space—will be "an Italian fine dining restaurant." Yes, fine dining in the Castro. [EaterWire]
