Eater Sneak Peek: Downstairs at Press Club

Here we have an early architectural rendering of Press Club, the wine bar—err, urban tasting room and retail wine shop with a wine bar—coming to Yerba Buena Lane sometime in the first half of 2008. Jokes aside, Press Club will be more like a Ferry Building for wine than the wine bars littering town. With only the retail shop slated for the street level, the 9,000-square-foot space is just about entirely subterranean—it's under the Four Seasons—which gives it a distinct wine cellar vibe. Having a hard time visualizing? Fear not, we've got some photos of the developing space:

Abandon all sobriety ye who enter here: the stairs leading from the Yerba Buena entrance down to the main event below. Also in the works: an elevator. We're guessing plenty of people will be taking the stairs down and the elevator up.

One of the two "tasting areas" to be populated with four wineries' offerings. Wineries will take the spaces lining the walls and there will be a high top table running down the middle so you don't have to hang out with the winery people if you'd rather not listen to oenophiles discuss tannins and the like. In addition to a pair of two tasting cells (a total of eight wineries), there is also a wine bar, lounge area and private room.
