A high tide floats all boats, and the continued attempts to rejuvenate/ingratiate Ghirardelli Square to locals have now taken on an ethnic tilt. Via a tipster, we have word that Samba Rooms, a Brazilian/Italian restaurant, has quietly opened right across the street from the square. A Brazilian buffet is currently available ($10/p) and Italian staples like pizza and pasta are also on tap. Next Monday, the bakery half will open and offer traditional Brazilian sandwiches and pastries, in addition to normal baked goods like donuts, muffins, etc. Be warned: the place is still in very elementary stages. And its name should be singular. 993 North Point Street, at Polk, Ghirardelli Square; (415) 292-7750
