The father of gourmet pizza, Ed LaDou, passed away recently. Back in the 80s, LaDou was cooking at San Francisco's Prego when Wolfgang Puck tasted an original creation of his (pizza topped with ricotta cheese, red peppers, pâté and mustard), and immediately offered LaDou a job as his then-unopened restaurant. Needless to say, LaDou went on to put Spago's pizza on the map. [Eater LA]
