HEALDSBURG—Cyrus star bartender Scott Beattie has a new book out, and as you might guess, it's something of a cocktail cookbook. Of course, being in the Bay Area, Beattie has given the book a (yes, slightly ridiculous) twist: "But as an extreme example of the local, seasonal cooking movement, he and his new book, "Artisan Cocktails: Drinks Inspired by the Seasons from the Bar at Cyrus" (Ten Speed Press, $24.95), are a hot ticket." EMBARCADERO—Americano and its executive chef Paul Arenstam have rolled out a new menu at the Embarcadero happy hour drinking destination. The release says that the new food offerings are inspired by the recent rash of Slow Food festivities and will a) highlight local purveyors and ingredients and b) "put a greater focus on authentic Italian cuisine." NATIONWIDE—Add Burger King to the list of chains that are officially trans fat free: "Burger King Corp. said today it is now cooking with trans fat free cooking oils at all of its restaurants nationwide. The No. 2 hamburger chain also said all of its menu ingredients, including its baked goods, will contain zero grams of trans fat by Nov. 1. " Small victories? [SJMN]
