Halloween Nostalgia

2008_10_blackcat.jpgSFist has a glorious history of the Black Cat Cafe, the infamous bar abruptly shut down on Halloween night in 1963. The bar on Montgomery Street—in the space that is currently Bocadillos—was a "magnet" for local artists including the likes of Steinbeck and Ginsberg, inspired the Bohemian Bar of On the Road, and won a California Supreme court decision that determined that it was, in fact, not a crime to serve drinks to homosexuals.
