Oakland Rising: Zuni Alums, Pizzaiolo Look Uptown

Oakland: Not only is a new generation of big-name restaurants in Jack London Square off and running, but all of Oakland is experiencing a wave as well, particularly Uptown and the neighborhood around the Fox Theater neighborhood. We've already mentioned some here—Ozumo East, for example—but the BizTimes shares a nice roundup of the resurgence, with a few new pieces of intel, most notably involving the three spaces adjacent to Flora. We've got some big names involved, people:

Flora’s owners have signed on for one of a trio of small spaces on the same block. There Flora co-owner Thomas Schnetz will open a 1,500-square-foot casual eatery similar to his Tacubaya taqueria in Berkeley ... It will open in fall 2009 and, including renewal options, is a 20-year lease. Charlie Hallowell of Pizzaiolo has signed on for one of the two adjacent spaces. It, too, will be a pizza joint and likely in a similar vein to Pizzaiolo, though with a different name. The third is said to be favored by two alums of Zuni Cafe in San Francisco.
But who are these so-called "Zuni alums"?

P.S. And for you San Francisco folk, we're curious to know if Oakland is—or will be—a viable dining option, or are you gladly fixed to this side of the Bay?
