Civic Center: The joint pet project of Mayor Gavin Newsom and Alice Waters, the Slow Food Victory Garden, is officially doneski after one final weekend harvest. The project certainly had its detractors and plenty of questionable aspects—i.e., putting it in that particular area and guarding it from the homeless at $3400 a week—but on the whole, publicity stunt or not, it probably accomplished what it originally set out to do, which is raise awareness about the Slow Food movement. A-Dubs will eventually get one at the White House too, but for now, share your thoughts: was the Victory Garden a success?
