1) Castro: Plywood vet Cafe Mystique debuted in the old Welcome Home space directly across from the Castro Theater. The cuisine is North African, and it's owned by a pair of guys (Alan Klein and Sam Khalili) who had a Mediterranean restaurant years ago and currently own a jewelry store. And the Yelpers are showing no mercy in the earlygoing. 464 Castro Street, between 17th & 18th, website [EaterWire]
2) Lower Mission/Bernal: The smoke was flowing out of Baby Blues BBQ over the weekend, the first offshoot of the Venice Beach southern barbecue hotspot. They call their BBQ style "hybrid", with Carolina sauce, Memphis-style ribs and Bayou-grilled shrimp being some of the items on the bill of fare (those curious can see the whole NorCal menu here). Open daily for lunch and dinner. 3149 Mission Street, at Precita; (415) 896-4250; website [EaterWire]
3) The Castro: Also open is Frapez, a newcomer that gets this week's prize for the most curious mashup. It's a smoothie/spa, and while we're not sure what the second half of that equation entails, the smoothies could be a step up from your run-of-the-mill Jamba Juice. 4092 18th Street, between Castro & Hartford; (415) 503-1323 [EaterWire]
