Many have predicted the recession to be tough on midscale chains, and without any notice, three Bay Area locations of TGI Friday's closed shop yesterday. Locations in San Bruno, San Mateo and Cupertino all shuttered immediately, leaving dozens jobless, but details are still trickling in: "The three TGI Friday's were closed by their owner, CNL International ... Calls to CNL's Florida office were not returned." According to CNL's parent company, the closures "were not authorized by TGI Friday's Inc. and [they] are still in the process of gathering facts."
