THE MARINA—The chef shuffle complete, Laiola and its new exec Ron Pei will kick off their promised Paella Mondays on this coming Monday, December 8th. The $30 menu is as follows: simple salad, "Mar i Muntanya (sea and mountain)" paella, churros con chocolate, and a glass of Albariño. [EaterWire]
BERKELEY—The annual Zinfandel festival goes down next week at Chez Panisse, and wine guru Jon Bonne pens a nice piece on the restaurant's seemingly-curious love affair with the wine: "The Panisse-Zinfandel connection has endured mostly because of Zin's one-time reputation as the quintessential American grape, even if its roots have been firmly established elsewhere in subsequent years. If Chez Panisse serves as a lighthouse to local, Zinfandel would reasonably be a wine of choice." [Cellarist]
THE MARINA—Two locals have been charged in that stabbing at Balboa Cafe a fortnight ago. One is charged with attempted murder, the other with destroying evidence. Witnesses now say that the conflict began in the bar when two groups began taunting each other while watching the Stanford-USC game. [Daily Trojan]
THE MISSION—According to Mission Mission, Elixir will be pouring few absinthe tonight from 7pm to 9pm. That is probably all you need to know. [MM]
