Sure, there's a strong cocktail scene, but the WSJ discovers SF's grand old hotel bars haven't aged well: "San Francisco rivals New York these days as a hotbed of serious cocktail culture, but its great old hotels haven't kept up with the best of the local bar scene. There were no Americanos to be had at the St. Francis, the Sir Francis Drake 'Starlight Room,' or the Mark Hopkins 'Top of the Mark,' where a waitress came back to me with the definitive, 'That's not in our computer.'"
