Eater Inside: La Trappe

Along with Oakland's Trappist and the Mission's Monk Kettle, La Trappe was a key component of the great, serendipitous Belgian explosion of late 2007. Located in the former Buca Giovanni space on the corner of Greenwich and Columbus, La Trappe is on two levels. Upstairs is a casual, fairly-standard cafe area where breakfast and lunch will soon be offered, but as those familiar with Buca Giovanni will remember, a Dantesque descent down the spiral staircase reveals a catacomb-like room lined with old school brick. The La Trappe guys have swapped in some church pews, Belgian knickknacks and other amenities into the space, and are in the midst of (re)staffing the place, as apparently it's not so easy to memorize over 130 beers.
