Mourning the Journalism Bars

2008_03_washbag.jpgWe all know what the real casualties of all those newspaper layoffs are—the reporter watering holes, now shuttering across the country. Two legendary San Francisco bars, the closed Washbag and soon-to-close Moose's, bookend this MarketWatch video that highlights a dying breed of bars and is required viewing for anyone who appreciates the old school. Front and center is Michael McCourt, San Francisco's iconic bartender, who gets nostalgic about the reporters of yesteryear: "Conversation was the big thing when I first came along. Guys would argue abut the weather. They were in touch with each other. And now the TV and whatever else takes it away from them ... The ones you see around now, they all seem to have their own agenda." [MarketWatch via Eater]
