1) Lower Haight: Even though it seems like years ago that The Yin sneaked into Uva Enoteca for her exclusive little preview, tonight finally marks the debut for Boris Nemchenok and Ben Hetzel's Italian spot. Inspired by New York Italian heavies like 'inoteca and Batali's Otto, Uva will trot out antipasti, cheeses, salumi, pizza and the like, everyday from 5pm-12am, plus daytime hours on the weekends. Is the lower Haight rising? 568 Haight Street, near Steiner Street; (415) 829-2024; website [EaterWire]
2) Sausalito: The Chronicle passes along word of Le Garage and how great (and boat-y) are street names over there: "Olivier Souvestre, formerly of Chez Papa, opened this casual French bistro in the Schoonmaker Point Marina in Sausalito on Thursday...Breakfast daily, lunch weekdays, brunch weekends." 85 Liberty Ship Way, Sausalito; (415) 332-5625 [Chron]
3) Silicon Valley: Please pardon the detour down way down south, but sometimes, openings are much too enjoyable to pass up. Take, for example, the return of Calvin's Cheesesteaks—sorry, Calvin's World Famous South Philly Cheese Steaks & Hoagies—begging the question of when a restaurant is considered returned versus just new: "[Owner Jonne] Aleeson says he's officially re-opening on April 24 after being closed for 17 years. 'It's something that has always been in my head to do. I hear about Calvin's all the time; people remember us,' says Aleeson, whose roots are, of course, in South Philadelphia." Those people are, of course, just humoring the crazy man from Philadelphia. 1411 The Alameda, San Jose; (408) 286-5626; website [SJMN]
