EaterWire: First Crush's Hotshot Chef, Tyler Everywhere

New, 3 comments

UNION SQUARE—He might hate Top Chef and might have sworn to never, ever sell out (give it time, give it time), but new First Crush chef John Nguyen is not above a little dessert sell-out: "Chef John Nguyen has just taken over the kitchen of First Crush. Nguyen's culinary resume reads like a 'Who's Who' of the West Coast restaurant world, having worked at Fifth Floor, Betelnut, Gary Danko, French Laundry, and Masa's. And the kid's only 27 years-old...To celebrate the new menu, First Crush is offering a free dessert to City Dish peeps with purchase of an entrée." [SF City Dish]

SAN FRANCISCO—You won't find us waiting in line for an hour for some Cherry Garcia, but we're of the mindset that there are not many things better than free ice cream, and that's what's available all day tomorrow at Ben & Jerry's locations across town. Check the list of participants, and finally take that two-hour ice cream lunch tomorrow. [EaterWire]

TYLER FLORENCE WORLD—A pair of news items from Marin's favorite celebrity chef: First, Ty-Flo was supposed to be on Oprah today. He was not: "It should air in early May and of course, I’ll keep you posted." Of course. Elsewhere, since a kitchen is involved, Florence's kitchenware store in Mill Valley is currently under review this week by the local planning commission. Now, we can actually picture him giving demonstrations in his kitchenware store a lot more easily than we can see him in the kitchen nightly at Bar Florence. [TyFloBlog, MIJ]
