EaterWire: Nua Doneski, Rocco's New Show and MORE!

New, 4 comments

NORTH BEACH—Add another empty storefront to the North Beach streets, as Nua has closed after less than two years, despite for the most part, favorable reviews: "...according to the building's landlord, Gigi Fiorucci, the restaurant has closed. Although Nua owner David White declined to comment, Fiorucci says he is negotiating with new operators who plan to open an Italian restaurant in the space." Just what the nabe needs. [Scoop]

TELEVISION—Not fazed by frozen pasta dinners, the Rocco DiSpirito saga is now returning to television. From Eater LA: "He's gone from the beautiful trainwreck that was The Restaurant to shining moments on the last two season's of Top Chef to hawking frozen pasta dinners, and now Rocco DiSpirito will finally get his own show again. Rocco to the Rescue (working title) got the greenlight for daytime on A&E; it's been stalled in development since 2006." [Eater LA]

THE HAIGHT—On the cocktail front, tonight should be an interesting evening at Alembic, and the perfect nightcap after ice cream: "One of the first bartender's bibles published after the repeal of prohibition, [1930's Savoy Cocktail Book] contains roughly 750 drink recipes ranging from familiar to absolutely unheard of. The idea of the Savoy Cocktail Night (held the last Tuesday of the month...) is simple: drinkers belly up to the bar and try to confound the barkeeps by choosing the craziest drink they can find from book's pages, which the Alembic folks have been busy recreating behind the scenes."
