Eater Inside: Magnolia

New, 4 comments

The Haight: Welcome to the new Magnolia, the longtime neighborhood favorite that took a quick sabbatical last month to freshen up after a decade of business. In addition to christening the place a "gastropub" (the Brandon Jew-led menu overhaul also had something to do with this), owner Dave McLean put in—among other "trendy" pieces—a new communal table, a new bar, and more recently, a new beer board in the center of the room. Even though some remain bitter about the loss of the famous mural, for better or worse, Magnolia remains packed as ever a month into its gastropub era. Down the road, its little sis Alembic has thrived as an atypical Haight hotspot (read: more yuppie than hippie), so we're thinking things will probably work out at the new, if slightly different Magnolia.
