Los Bauer's Sunday review hands out 2.5 stars to Laurent Manrique's reinvented Fifth Floor, where flashes of greatness aren't enough to offset some flawed reinterpretations: "I first ate Manrique's food when he was the chef at Campton Place nearly 10 years ago, and I still fondly remember his Gascon poached chicken. He's reinterpreted that and other regional dishes at Fifth Floor, giving them a nouvelle turn. The attempt is laudable, but I don't feel a soulful connection between the man and the food. After the first visit, I probably wouldn't have returned if I weren't reviewing the place. The combinations seemed to be trying too hard to be different at the expense of the diner's satisfaction."
