In an ironic twist of fate, one of the 600 shuttering Starbucks just happens to be the archrival shop and Berkeley neighbor to the original location of Peet's Coffee, which opened back in the '60s. Though we'd guess it's technically more popular here in the Bay, Peet's has spent the last decade weathering the Starbucks storm, so score one for the little(r) guys. [BusinessTimes, previously]
