Breaking EaterWire: Ian Begg Leaving Cafe Majestic

PACIFIC HEIGHTS—One of the better fine dining secrets in town is doneski, at least for the time being, as the Scoop is reporting that Cafe Majestic is losing Ian Begg, the talented young chef (funny, too) who pretty much resurrected the restaurant after it was shuttered for four years. Begg will be departing along with his sous chef Sarn Saechao and GM/sommelier Ryan Maxey:

The three say they're leaving due to differences with management of the Victorian-era San Francisco hotel who, according to Begg, were moving away from fine dining.

"It was made quite clear we weren't welcome there any longer," says a saddened Begg, even though, "I feel like we've been pretty successful with it."

Begg's last day is August 6th, which means you might want to pay one last visit before he bolts. The Chron speculates that the trio will eventually put together a new project, and as for the Majestic, well, they're looking to fill some rather important positions.
