UNION SQUARE—Honestly, we're not quite sure what to think about this promotion downtown: "Morton's steakhouse in San Francisco announced they'll be giving out free filet mignon steak sandwiches weekdays from 5-7 PM to lure in the happy hour cocktail crowds. They seem to be promoting their cocktail program heavily lately." Free filet mignon can't be considered a bad thing, or can it? [Alcademics]

NAPA—According to BiteClub, Napa's Elements Restaurant has finally set a September opening date: "...we hear that some permitting issues kept renovations at the former PIzza Azzurro spot from getting the spot open sooner. The restaurant/enoteca has former ZuZu chef Charles Weber in the kitchen and wine and food guy Rich Poliak at the helm." More background here. [PressDem]
