EaterWire: Another Google Chef Leaves, Tomato Specials Everywhere, Haight Whole Foods In Doubt

EMBARCADERO—Just two months ago, Nate Keller arrived at Google's Embarcadero after being the executive chef in Mountain View, but he's already jumping ship to the competition: "Keller is heading to Apple in Cupertino, according to sources. He will be joining his former compatriot, John Dickman, who left as global food services director for Google in March to join Apple." Yeah, it must be the new iPhones. [FoodGal]

SAN FRANCISCO—Mme. Hopstress brings news of what we'll call a veritable cornucopia of special tomato dinners around town as we approach Heirloom Tomato Week: PlumpJack Cafe and Lark Creek Group (One Market, Lark Creek Steak et al.) both have month-long specials; and next Wednesday (8/13), the Ritz is loaning out Ron Siegel to the Cliff House for a special tomato four-courser. THE HAIGHT—Curbed has been diligently following the escalating controversy regarding a prospective Whole Foods going in at 690 Stanyan. The latest is that opposition has been fierce, and the developer is starting to reconsider: "We're at best '50 - 50' and that it is quite likely that this project is on its deathbed. The unreasonable delays in environmental review by the City are causing both the project sponsor and the proposed tenant, Whole Foods Market, to think seriously about whether it is all worth it."
