Michael Sanchez, the owner of brunch staple Mama's, passed away recently at the age of 84. In 1952, Sanchez opened the Herbert Sherbet Shop on the corner of Filbert and Stockton; 12 years later, he decided to remodel it into a restaurant, and decided to name it after his wife Frances, mother of their eight children. Since Sanchez retired back in 1997, his son and daughter-in-law have been running Mama's. [Chron]
