EaterWire: Copia Cuts Staff/Hours, Schroeder's Celebrates

NAPA—What in the name of Julia Child is going on up at Copia? This morning, it came out that a San Francisco location of Copia is in the works, and now the Napa shitshow has laid off staff and more: Copia, downtown Napa’s beleaguered food and wine center, has laid off 24 of its 80 full-time employees and introduced new seasonal operating hours. Between October 1 and May 31 the center will open only Friday, Saturday and Sunday." [NVR, previously]

FINANCIAL DISTRICT—Today marks the 115th birthday for Schroeder's, the most elderly German restaurant in the land. According to SFist, they'll be celebrating their old age with "live polka bands, traditional Bavarian dancing and both male and female beer-holding contests." [SFist]

BERKELEY—The shutter has been delayed for Brennan's. Construction hiccups have allowed the East Bay oldie to stay open one more week. [EaterWire]

TOP CHEF UNIVERSE—This week's award for oddest career decision goes to Top Chef alum Richard Blais: "Blais says he's beginning his 'writing career' by blogging for the latest installment of the network's reality franchise. 'My aspiring writing career will start with blogging (The Real) Housewives of Atlanta...'" Dude, stick with the banana scallops. [TMoTB via ENY]

NAPA—The LA Times shed some light on the utter market madness at work at the Berkeley Bowl, but that's nothing compared to what happens in Napa supermarkets: "On Sept. 17, police responded to a report of two men arguing at a Lucky's supermarket on California Boulevard in Napa. Jorge Sevilla allegedly got into a confrontation with another man inside the store, police said. Sevilla, armed with a knife, chased the man down the aisles of the store, police said. No one was hurt." [NVR]
