EaterWire: Bourdain's Epic Mane, More Slocombe Deets

THE 70'S—With some hair-related revenge in mind, Michael Ruhlman takes to the blogs to needle his buddy Tony Bourdain by publishing photos of Bourdain from his high school yearbook. Let's just say that he's sporting one impressive head of hair. You do hate to see that, even in the 70's. [Ruhlman via Eater]

THE MISSION—We've touched on the bad luck that's plagued gourmet ice cream shop Humphry Slocombe, but things are moving along nicely down on 24th. In an interview with 7x7, Jake Godby shares some details: there will likely be 16 flavors, eight of which will rotate, he just got Blue Bottle's permission for a Blue Bottle Vietnamese ice cream, and the porcini ice cream was a flop. SOUTH BAYSan Jose Mercury News restaurant reviewer Aleta Watson is stepping down after six and a half years at the helm, but she's not retiring: "Now I'm leaving the world of daily newspapers, but not the world of food. I plan to try my hand at freelance writing and blogging about food. Eating for a living has been fun, even if my cholesterol count and waistline have taken the brunt of all those times I indulged in foie gras instead of ordering a house salad. Nor am I one to pass on dessert. After all, it was my responsibility to check out the entire menu for you — at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it." [SJMN]
