Suspended: Bossa Nova Rings in a Very Dry '09

SoMa: While Charles Phan's new project—due later this week; more on that in a bit—is expected to breathe new life into the Eighth and Market corridor, just down the road, Bossa Nova's new year has gotten off to a rocky start. Not only is Jocelyn Bulow's Maktub Group already selling the relatively new project (opened summer '07), but for undisclosed reasons, the trendy Brazilian restaurant/lounge has lost its liquor license for most of January. Considering Bossa Nova's laurels rest almost entirely on its lounge/cocktail scene—which, dare we say, is considerably less appealing sans booze—a liquor license suspension is a crushing blow, especially in times like these, especially to start the year.
