THE CASTRO—It's no secret that the city is short on late-night options, but more and more eateries are trying to tap the market. Case in point: Kasa in the Castro is now open until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays, a smart move in a neighborhood so saturated in bars. Make it happen people. [EaterWire]
TENDERLOIN—Lady Hopstress has the deets on Jones Street's shuttered Tajine space, which has become Eden's Turkish Food. What's on the menu? Glad you asked: "The restaurant is serving a variety of kebabs, wraps, meat pies, cold Mediterranean appetizers like eggplant salad, plus ezo gelin soup (red lentil) and some other authentic Turkish dishes." Closed Sundays. 552 Jones Street, at O'Farrell; (415) 928-1966 [TH]
OAKLAND—Remember that scary string of restaurant takeover robberies? The suspects are slowly but surely standing trial. From the Trib: "A suspect in the takeover robbery of Milano restaurant on Grand Avenue last year must stand trial on nine counts of robbery for allegedly helping three others storm the eatery, a judge ruled Monday. Tanom Dominigue, 17, of Oakland, became the second suspect of five to be sent to trial in a series of somewhat unrelated takeover robberies last year." [OT]
LAFAYETTE—Even though Gigi is currently on its farewell tour (it's closing after Valentine's Day), the locals are chomping at the bit for its replacement: ".. Gigi is closing, but opening in that very same location on Brown Avenue a few weeks later is Artisan Bistro. The new restaurant will be run by Chef John Marquez and his family and all you need to know (for now) about Marquez is that he's currently the chef at Fringale in San Francisco. If you've eaten at Fringale, you know what I'm implying here ... Artisan Bistro could knock our socks off." [CCT]
