Niman Ranch isn't the only local iconic food company reeling. Yesterday, Hershey announced that it will be closing all local operations for Scharffen Berger, including the West Berkeley manufacturing plant and the San Francisco factory. Says Scharffen Berger's PR rep: "I'm glad [founder Robert Steinberg] is not alive to see this ... If the lymphoma hadn't taken him, this would have." [Chron]
