Lefty O'Doul's Woos Obama, Bardessono's Jamon Event

UNION SQUARE—Obamarama arrives in SF today, and despite the multitude of protests in and around Union Square, at least one restaurant there has put out the welcome mat for the big guy: "... the restaurant Lefty O'Doul's, located across from the St. Francis, plans to fly a 30-foot banner welcoming 'the 8th lefty president of the United States.'" NAPA—Up in Yountville, Bardessono is throwing a special dinner featuring Spanish delicacy jamon iberico next Monday, October 19. It's a four-course Spanish meal at the luxe hotel, with wine pairings and a tasting of three types of fancy jamon iberico for $135. [EaterWire]

MEDIA—That taxi driver is totally going to hell. From Food & Wine honcho Dana Cowin's Twitter: "Outraged! I just got hit by a taxi crossing 79th. St! I'm totally ok except for possibly sprained/fractured/etc wrist. Ugh." Those food mags just can't catch a break lately." [Twitter via Eater National]

MEDIA—Speaking of food mag editors, Ruth Reichl went on NPR yesterday and chatted for nearly 40 minutes about the death of Gourmet, how she (and the rest of her staff) were shocked at the news, her various book projects and all things food. [Eater National]
