Uptown Joe's Sets an Opening Date, Controversy or Not

One of the most curious moves during this fall opening season could very well be the rebirth of Original Joe's in the upscale Cafe Majestic (pictured) as Uptown Joe's. Actually, "rebirth" is probably not the right word, since the Joe's owners—the Duggan family—are not involved and oppose their former employees taking the name to up the hill to fancy Pac Heights.

In any event, Uptown Joe's is slated to open on November 11, and will try to make upscale "Italian-American and San Francisco comfort food" work in the old Majestic space, which, given its location and ultra-swankiness, could be a tough proposition. But now the key question becomes: Will they or will they not keep the porcelain dogs?
