Crimes Against Wine

2009_11_nightmarefuel.jpgThe creepy-looking man seen here—one Mark Anderson, aka "Joe Sausalito"—yesterday admitted to setting a Vallejo wine warehouse on fire. But what makes the story really amazing are the numbers involved: the rosy-cheeked fellow single-handedly destroyed 6 million bottles of wine worth roughly $200 million. He's suspected of torching the warehouse to cover up the illegal activities of his wine-storage company (Sausalito Cellars), wherein he sold the expensive bottles that people deposited and replaced them with Trader Joe's Two-Buck Chuck. In other words, he's basically the Bernie Madoff of the wine world. [NBC]
