The Dish: Sumi Sushi, Sidebar, Hollow, More!

Spot a newcomer in your neighborhood? Operators are standing by.

2009_02_sumi.jpg1) The Castro: Sumi may have retired and shuttered her eponymous restaurant after more than two decades, but the weekend will see the resurrection of the 18th Street space as Sumi Sushi. Very little has changed decor-wise, but as you can gather from the name, sushi is the main focus now. Tonight is the soft-opening (limited number of reservations), and the grand opening is Saturday night. 4243 18th Street, between Collingwood and Diamond; (415) 626-7864 [EaterWire]

2) Oakland: Lake Merritt gets its gastropub tonight with the debut of Sidebar. Behind the project are the husband and wife team from Zax Tavern's: chef Barbara Mulas and pastry chef Mark Drazek. The gastropub theme will incorporate "modern, seasonal California cuisine." 542 Grand Avenue, Oakland; (510) 452-9500; website [EaterWire]

3) The Sunset: Earlier this week, UrbanDaddy brought news of Hollow, a brand new "blink-and-you'll-miss-it coffee and novelty shop" on Irving. The good news is that, given the Ritual coffee and La Marzocco espresso machine, the coffee there is very legit. The bad news is that it closes at 5pm everyday. 1435 Irving Street, between 15th and 16th; (415) 242-4119 [UD]

4) Sonoma: Yet another brewery up in wine country, this time in the town of Sonoma. Local beerman William Brand has all the details, but know that it’s called Sonoma Springs Brewing Co. and is a seven-barrel operation that could finally provide a welcome change from the usual Sonoma sights and sounds. Open Wed-Sat. 750 West Napa Street, Sonoma; (707) 202-8295 [IBA]
