EaterWire: Samovar's Tricks, Stefan as Fashion Designer

INDUSTRY—The WSJ has an article about the ways in which small businesses are preventing layoffs, and Samovar Tea Lounge owner Jesse Jacobs shares some of his tricks. Even though sales are up, Samovar is short on cash "because of loans and spending related to a new-store opening," so they encourage employees to clock out on time, offering massages to those who don't do overtime. TOP CHEFFAGE—You might want to sit down for this: Top Chef runner-up Stefan Richter has released a clothing line called Cocky Chef Clothing. Actually, a quick look at the online store reveals that it's probably inaccurate to call it a clothing line; dude's making t-shirts (and ahem, underwear). But hey, look no further for "I Love Lesbians" shirts for men. [~ELA~]

SOMA—While PlumpJack Cafe sits dark, Jack Falstaff has introduced a four-course menu option. The special menu is served family-style, is offered every day and costs $40. One caveat: the offer is only good for parties of three or more. [EaterWire]

THE SSF—You stay classy, South City: "A bar has had its alcohol license revoked after investigators said a co-owner tried to purchase stolen alcohol and cigarettes from an undercover officer. Investigators with the state Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control posted a revocation notice at Christy’s Bar and Grill, 309 Airport Blvd., after alcohol and cigarettes known to be stolen were purchased."
